How can Holistic Medicine help me?
- We always endeavour to manage symptoms while treating the cause of illness and minimising any undesirable side effects associated with some prescription medications.
- We have a low-product focus so we prefer to correct nutritional deficiencies with food rather than supplements. By addressing the causes of illness our aim is to reduce the need for natural and pharmaceutical medications where possible.
- The supplements we recommend are mainly practitioner only products. This means they are potent, not available over the counter and are “prescribed” by a practitioner within the context of a consultation.
- As part of our holistic approach, we perform comprehensive orthodox diagnostic tests and refer to specialists where appropriate.
- At the Holistic Medical Centre we search for underlying factors involved in mood disorders and address these health concerns using natural solutions instead of pharamceutical options. For those taking psychiatric medications such as anti-depressants and anxiety medications you will need to keep your regular GP for ongoing prescriptions, while we will provide a holistic review and address any underlying factors to support wellbeing.
- Some patients request assistance with decreasing medications. We can do this in some instances if the doctor is happy that this will benefit the health of the patient. We have helped many patients reduce anti-depressant medications. We do not, however, adjust any psychiatric medications, such as bi-polar medications or anti-psychotic medications.
- This practice is a member of Auckland PHO (Primary Health Organisation) which means that patients who are ENROLLED with our practice will receive a subsidy for their consultations. There are many who prefer to keep a local GP and travel to see us for holistic care as needed. This is fine but these patients are CASUAL and do not receive a PHO subsidy.
- We prefer to use bio-identical over HRT (hormone replacement therapy) due to recent concerns over the risks associated with HRT.
