Wellness Checks

Well Woman Checks

We well_womanare encouraging our patients to have annual wellness checks to achieve and maintain optimal health. We aim for excellence in preventative health and to highlight the value of early detection and the value of wellness checks for women we would like to share a story from Karin, our nurse.

“[In 2006] I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram with Breastscreen Aotearoa. Apart from the fact that I am a woman and have breasts, I had no risk factors, with no family history, have never smoked, and have breast-fed at length. Have I been doing too much? Well . . . .After surgery and 20 sessions of radiotherapy I [was] fine, and, in fact, have remained fine throughout the whole treatment. My wonderful colleagues at HMC prepared treatment plans for me for prior to and after both surgery and radiotherapy and I have experienced very few side effects. I cannot stress enough how important it is to go for those pesky mammograms! Please feel free to talk to me about any of the above- I shan’t be embarrassed!”
If you are interested in which nutrients are important for breast health, more information can be found in the newsletters entitled Healthy Oestrogens and Breast Health.

Well Man Checks

We are also encouraging men to take care of their long term health and practice preventative health by doing annual check ups. By ensuring early

detection of any problems that may be brewing, the right steps can be taken to support the best possible health and if possible reduce the need for medications which carry unwanted side effects for some. An example of this is found in the story below. A gentleman in his early 40s returned to us to

do a follow up on his cardiovascular health program with Dr Mike Foster that he has been doing for 18 months. He was particularly happy with the results as were we. Mike had preformed a DAN test on him at both visits which gave us the statistics below.

1) Blood pressure was 150/110 despite taking Accupril for his blood pressure.
2) Weight 112Kg
3) Total body fat 31.6% (normal = )
4) Visceral/bad fat -16 (healthy=1-12). This is the internal fat around organs: an important health indicator
5) Total body water 48.5% (healthy is 60-65%)

After following Dr Foster’s advice including diet, exercise and supplementation, his statistics looked like this after 18 months

NOW

1) Blood pressure 130/80 without medication
2) Weight 85.5Kg
3) Total body fat 16.2%
4) Visceral/bad fat – 7
5) Total body water - 62%

This is obviously a fantastic improvement but what cannot be seen in the statistics is how great he now feels and the fact that he has taken up competitive sports and is living life to the fullest. These fantastic results were all achieved with diet, exercise and supplementation alone
